Meet Dr. Joseph Amalfitano, Periodontist and Dental Implants Specialist

Dr. Joseph Amalfitano, Periodontist and Dental Implants SpecialistJoseph Amalfitano graduated from South Lake High School in St. Clair Shores Michigan in 1982 and subsequently attended Eastern Michigan University for 1 year. After transferring to the University of Michigan in 1983, he received a bachelors degree in Microbiology and was accepted to the dental school also at the University of Michigan in 1986. During his training, he participated in various research projects and studied the microbiology of periodontal disease. After graduating from dental school in 1990, Dr. Amalfitano completed a two year fellowship in Oral Microbiology at the University of Michigan and was also accepted to the Department of Periodontics where he received advanced surgical training in the treatment of various forms of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.

Upon completing his residency in 1994, Dr. Amalfitano began practicing in Traverse City, MI. Since then he has taken many continuing education courses which have augmented his surgical training. Dr. Amalfitano's goal is to provide the people of Northwestern Lower Michigan with the most up to date surgical techniques for the treatment of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.

Dr. Amalfitano is a member of the following organizations:

  4. The American Academy of Periodontology
  5. The International College of Osseointegration

He is also a past President of the Resort District Dental Society and on the advisory committee of the Grand Traverse Study Club which is a chapter of the Seattle Study Club.
